Walls Consumed with Fire
The walls consumed with fire to find
What substance will remain
On good foundation, works that last,
Or stubble lost to Holy flame?
Faith to shield a city,
Or left as plunder for the world,
Encircled and protected,
Or taken captive by a wicked sword?
Where faith has built,
Is foundation sure?
Where knowledge constructs,
Has the source stayed true?
Can foxes walk the structure’s length?
Will the wall stand long secure?
Will enemy try and virtue test
To see if the work is pure?
When the Son of Man comes,
What wall will He find?
Will He truly find faith,
Have we left it behind?
Shall we leave that wall,
That shield in ruin;
Shall faith be rebuilt,
Or hearts remain hardened…
Turned aside to the cares of the day,
Turned in pride to selfish way,
Turned in doubt to foreign gods,
Turned in greed to worldly goods,
Turned to Him or turned away?
Will you build?
Will it burn?
Will it stand?
Will it sway?
Will the wall fall down?
Will He tear it away,
That it might be rebuilt?
