Despairing Moment

Despairing moment…
You are there,
The fiery path I tread
Cannot stay your comforting arm;
Your reach cannot compare
To earthly friends who flee from sight,
Who cannot comprehend.

Unknowing, they walk by,
Fearful of human consequence;
Perhaps a few walk away,
Or linger at arms length
with saddened heart,
And seemingly alone, I stay…

But not really…You are here,
At my side
And You understand…
Your own slept when You prayed
As they watched, You allowed Yourself
To be completely betrayed…
They fled lest they suffer the same.

At a distance, a few
Watched on in horror
As You suffered undeserved shame,
Undue harm, reviling of
Your precious, mighty name…
At a distance they wept
They dare not come near;
But death gave way to life,
Forgiveness conveyed
To the lost and undeserving,
Chief of whom am I.
