The Northern Wind

The northern wind assaults my face
As I step outside, entering into the race;
Shutting the door to go my way,
So much to compete for my attention today,
A moment’s pause as I stop to pray,
“Lord, keep my eyes on You.”

As the engine roars and the traffic flows,
I notice the masses running to and fro;
Horns honk and lights change,
Stress and frustration fill my face,
And I stop, for I know,
Lord, my eyes stray from You…
Oh, Lord, keep my eyes on You!

When the running is done
And I’m safely home,
Able to stop and be still,
My mind cleared of thoughts
Of busyness and unrest
Focusing back on You…
Again, I pray
As I finish my day,
“Lord, keep my eyes on You!”
