Sleep Eludes
Little eyes don’t want to sleep;
Little minds that want to keep
On going, running, laughing, playing, singing…
Anything but sleep.
Little hearts so full of love,
Whispering, “I want you, Mom;”
Little ears acute and keen
Hear the tiniest sound,
And fast little feet
Quickly run.
Elusive sleep,
Intrusive feet
Shatter Mom’s moment of rest,
As energy drains
And they finally fade,
Drifting off amidst final protest.
Little faces shine with grace
Asleep, at peace in this quiet place;
The hubbub quelled
But just for a spell
As they rest and prepare
For wonderful new days.
