The Guitar
In search of an instrument
Useful to him,
One perfectly suited
To his need
Found an old guitar
Hanging up in a store
Pulled it down to examine
It’s a little cracked
It’s warped…needs work
But I’ll make an offer and
Take it home.
Checked with a shop…
What a piece of junk
We’ve seen that instrument before
Waste of money,
Waste of time…
Take it back…
and look..
Here’s a brand new model…
oh, a few hundred more…
The gentleman said
“never mind”
He saw some potential and took it
back home…started to work with the piece
took it apart
and took a good look
began to reinforce
the areas warped and weathered
filing down some rough edges
trying the strings
checking the sound
filing a little bit more
’til the sound was good and the music flowed
then the gentleman saw the realization
of a simple vision
an instrument useful to him
and more than useful,
the sound, beautiful
He took the piece in hand
Able to play in his own peronal way…
The sound and the purpose just what he desired.
An instrument bought at a price
Fixed and made useful by him
Trashed by the world,
By this man restored,
Fit to be played by him.
In search of an instrument
Useful to Him,
One perfectly suited
To His need
Found a man
Down and out
Took some time to look and examine
He’s a little cracked
He’s warped…needs work
But I’ll make an offer and
Give him a home and a hope.
Asked some people…
What a rotten choice…
We’ve seen that man before
Waste of money,
Waste of time…
Send him back…
and look..
Here’s a more desirable fella…
Cleancut and clean…
If you know what we mean…
The Gentleman said
“never mind”
He saw some potential and took him in
Started to work with this man
Took him apart
And took a good look
Began to reinforce
The areas warped and weathered
Filing down some rough edges
Teaching him things
Checking him out
Filing a little bit more
’til his heart was sound and the Spirit flowed
then the gentleman saw the realization
of a simple vision
an instrument useful to him
and more than useful,
His heart, beautiful
Cleansed by the blood of the Lamb,
He took the piece in hand
Able to play in his own peronal way…
The person and the purpose just what he desired.
An instrument bought with His own blood
A life made complete by Him
Trashed by the world,
By the Son restored,
Fit to be used by Him.
