A Quick and Fun Attraction – Essential Oils and Introductions

While essential oils is not a new concept, its introduction by family members has had a profound effect on the family. Two initial weeks of use in our household of 8 resulted in the depletion of full 15 ml bottles of lemon and lavender oils. Peppermint was approximately one-third gone in that time, with anticipated uses in coming months putting it on course for equal consumption.  Some of the ways in which the essential oils initially garnered appreciation:

  • Lavender is a popular bedtime and relaxation choice with most of the girls in the house – the aroma is soothing and this is one that doesn’t bother the skin.
  • Lemon is truly as uplifting as reported, excellent for a whiff when waking up or just needing a quick boost.
  • Peppermint is soothing for tension in the muscles or head, helping various members of the family with minor headaches, sore muscles and tired minds.
  • Lemon and peppermint in water – great craving curber, this leaves a sense of satisfaction in terms of taste, especially for the one who craves sweets.
  • Lemon for breakouts – a couple of us have found that in absence of something more targeted, the lemon oil is doing some good for skin blemishes.

It’s helpful to note that there can be some skin irritation such as burning with something as strong as peppermint, making it important to test first. With an introductory kit, 5ml bottles of the three basic essential oils, lemon, lavender and peppermint, are available for travel needs or for getting to know your oils without spending an arm and a leg to do so. If you decide that these are for you, you can also condense costs with a beginner’s set.
